More:

Bing-Wei Mao graduated with BSc. degree from Department of Chemistry, Fudan University in 1982. She was then officially sent by the Ministry of Education of China to UK for postgraduate study in 1983 when sending out students for oversea studies was just initiated after the Cultural Revolution in China. She received Ph.D degree in 1987, under the supervision of Prof. Martin Fleischmann, in the University of Southampton, focusing on in-situ X-ray diffraction investigations of electrochemical interfaces. After two years postdoctoral researches back in Fudan University, she moved to Xiamen University in 1989. She became a faculty member of the State Key Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Solid Surfaces (PCOSS), Xiamen University in 1992 and was promoted to full professor in 1996 and appointed as Distinguished Professor of Xiamen University since 2012.

Prof. Bing-Wei Mao’s research group has focused in the field of scanning probe microscopy since early 1990’s with emphasis on development of methods and applications in interfacial electrochemistry, nanoelectrochemistry and energy electrochemistry. Holding one subproject of a 973 project from MOST, one NSFC key project and several other national and provisional projects as well as participating several MOST and NSFC projects, the research directions of her group has covered SPM-based methodology and applications in multi-disciplinary researches, including single crystal electrochemistry in concentrated electrochemistry, molecular electronics, chip-based electrochemical analysis, and fundamentals of energy-orientated electrochemical interfaces. Prof. Bing-Wei Mao has published over 200 peer reviewed academic papers in journals including Nature Comm., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Chem and Adv. Mat. Her group has broad national and international connections. As a key member, she also participated in the NSFC-RCUK international joint project in single-molecule spintronics and the European Framework Seven Project in electrochemical nanomaterials. These and other collaborative works have led to several joint papers.

She served as the Secretary General of the 2nd Spring Meeting of ISE (March 2004, Xiamen, China) and later the Guest Editor of Special Issue of Electrochimica Acata on “Electrochemistry at nanoscale - Structuring, characterization and theories” (2005). She was invited as a Member of Judging Panel for the Hans-Jürgen Engell Prize of ISE (2011-2014). She was members of advisory boards of several national and international journals, including ChemPhysChem (2011-2015), Journal of Experimental Nanoscience (2005-2014), Science Bulletin (Chinese) (2003-2014). Currently, she is one of the co-chairs of advisory board of ChemElectroChem (2013-) and member of Journal of Electrochemistry (Chinese) (1995-). In addition, she was appointed as a member of Committee of Women Chemists of Chinese Chemical Society since 2014.

Prof. Mao has also been involved in teaching, delivering part of compulsory courses including “Physical Chemistry” for undergraduate, “Electrode Kinetics” and “Advance in Electrochemistry” for graduate students including overseas students. Currently, there are 2 post doctors and 12 graduate students doing research in her group.
